Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Living in New York is stressful so it is no surprise many of us raise our blood pressures when we get agitated. High blood pressure or hypertension is more complicated then getting your “blood to boil.” Hypertension is a disease state where blood pressure is constantly elevated above predetermined limits. This happens even when we are relaxed and not currently under any stressful conditions. There are several causes of high blood pressure. The causes we can identify are known as secondary hypertension because the high blood pressure is a direct consequence of that problem. Correct the problem and the hypertension improves. The reason we can’t identify, we call that essential hypertension, basically because “essentially,” we don’t know why. There are theories, but none worth describing here. At Medical Arts of New York, we try to give diet, exercise, nutrition, and vitamins a try before turning to medications. There are highly motivated patients who prefer not to take medications. There are also some patients for whom medications will need to be added to their natural approach for patient safety concerns. High blood pressure is known as the silent killer for good reason. Many patients don’t feel or simply choose to ignore the symptoms until it is too late. Don’t be one of them. Come and talk to us and let us help you take control of hypertension before it controls you.
